Zelenskyy on Kursk operation: We created buffer zone on territory of Russia
Ukraine has managed to create a buffer zone on the territory of Russia. This was achieved thanks to the Ukrainian Armed Forces' operation in the Kursk region, according to a statement from President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Telegram.
According to Zelenskyy, he held a meeting with Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi. They discussed the situation on all fronts in Ukraine, as well as the Kursk operation.
"Kursk operation: we are holding our positions and not allowing the enemy to expand the war on our land. Instead of the buffer zone on Ukrainian territory that the Russians had planned, we have created a buffer zone near our border on Russian territory," Zelenskyy wrote.
During the meeting, he also gave new tasks regarding negotiations with partners on defense support for Ukraine.
Situation in the Kursk region
Ukrainian forces have been advancing in the Kursk region for several months. In October, Russia intensified its attacks in an attempt to push the Ukrainian Armed Forces back before the weather worsens. According to Bloomberg, Ukraine may be able to hold this territory for several more months.
It was also reported that on October 20, Ukrainian paratroopers stormed the enemy's positions.
It is worth noting that Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the Russian command in mid-August to fully regain control of all territory in the Kursk region. However, their counteroffensive turned into a failure.
