Zelenskyy not yet ready to sign mineral deal with US - Sky News

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is not yet ready to sign an agreement with the US on access to Ukraine's mineral resources due to "problematic issues" in the draft deal, according to Sky News.
A source cited by the publication stated that the agreement is "not yet ready for signing, as there are a number of problematic issues, and in its current form, the president is not prepared to accept it."
"Today, the drafts do not reflect a partnership in the agreement and contain only unilateral commitments by Ukraine," a Sky News source said.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump claimed that the parties are close to finalizing the agreement. US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz stated this week that the deal will be concluded.
Ukraine-US agreement
Ukraine and the US have been working to finalize a partnership agreement granting Washington access to Ukraine's strategic mineral resources.
The US is seeking rights to 50% of Ukraine’s rare earth resources as compensation for the aid provided. However, Ukraine has refused to agree to such terms.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has insisted that the agreement must include security guarantees. US President Donald Trump reportedly reacted angrily to Zelenskyy’s refusal to sign the initial version of the deal.
Additionally, according to Reuters, the US has allegedly threatened to revoke Ukraine’s access to the Starlink satellite internet service if it refuses to sign the agreement.
The Wall Street Journal previously reported that Ukraine and the US were expected to sign the deal on February 22, but Sky News now indicates that Ukraine is not ready.
