Ukraine and US may sign minerals agreement as early as today – WSJ

An agreement on minerals between Ukraine and the US may be signed as early as this Saturday. Negotiations are nearing the final stage, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Informed sources told the media that an agreement between Ukraine and the United States on minerals use may be signed this Saturday, February 22.
The agreement is not yet finalized, but negotiations are approaching the final stage. It is not yet known when the document will be signed.
A particularly important factor that accelerated the process of concluding the agreement was the three-day visit of US Special Envoy for Ukraine and Russia Keith Kellogg to Kyiv.
Kellogg managed to greatly strengthen the trust between the Ukrainian government and its American partners, which in turn contributed to the progress in the negotiations.
Currently, the exact timing of the signing of the agreement remains unknown, but according to sources, the process is nearing completion.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy ordered his ministers not to sign the agreement proposed by the US on access to rare earth resources in Ukraine, as it did not provide for any meaningful compensation.
In response to the refusal, the White House called the decision “short-sighted.”
