Zelenskyy names defense needs to curb enemy ambitions, beyond air defense
Russian forces are trying to take advantage of Ukraine's expectations for help. Our partners have everything they need to destroy Russian ambitions, stated President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a joint press conference with Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
“The Russian army is now trying to take advantage of the situation when we are waiting for supplies from our partners, primarily from the United States. That is why promptness in delivery literally means stabilization of the front,” the President said.
Zelenskyy noted that the partners have the things that should work for Ukraine today to destroy Russia's terrorist ambitions. These include:
- 155mm caliber artillery;
- long-range weapons;
- air defense systems (ADS), primarily American Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems.
“The Russian army is preparing for further offensive actions. And together we must disrupt the Russian offensive. Our partners have all the necessary means,” Zelenskyy said.
Assistance to Ukraine
In recent weeks, the issue of assistance to Ukraine has begun to advance. For example, after the NATO-Ukraine Council meeting, Stoltenberg said that Kyiv's partners had agreed to help the country strengthen its air defense, and that announcements should be expected soon.
Furthermore, in April, the United States House of Representatives finally voted on a bill to support Ukraine. The document has already been signed by President Joe Biden, after which the United States announced a new package of aid.
Meanwhile, the President also outlined the main aspects that determine the power of the Ukrainian army, seizing the initiative on the battlefield and launching offensive actions.
