Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a conversation with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. He emphasized the need to strengthen air defense systems, especially ahead of winter, according to a post by the president on X.

“I spoke with the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer. I greatly appreciate your support, Keir. It is important to strengthen our air defenses, especially before winter. We are working on this practically every day,” Zelenskyy said.

At the same time, the president stressed that Ukraine’s ability to protect its skies is also its ability to steer the war toward its conclusion.

“Russians can only wage war by destroying life. Accordingly, protecting life is bringing peace closer,” the head of state explained.

NATO briefed on Ukraine’s air defense needs

On Monday, September 22, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a conversation with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. They spoke ahead of meetings at the UN General Assembly in New York.

The president wrote that he had had a very detailed conversation with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte ahead of many meetings in New York at the General Assembly, primarily about the need for real protection against Russian strikes.

According to Zelenskyy, the Ukrainian side provided partners with up-to-date information on air defense systems and missiles, which could significantly influence the course of events and limit Russia’s ability to continue the war.

In addition, Zelenskyy discussed the implementation of the PURL program with Rutte, particularly regarding air defense.
