Zelenskyy hinted to MPs about implementing EU recommendations - 226 votes is a duty
Ukraine has to fulfill the recommendations of the European Commission to join the EU. To do this, the Verkhovna Rada must have at least 226 votes in favor of the relevant bills, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during his evening address.
The Head of State emphasized that he had held a large meeting with representatives of the parliament, government and international experts on Ukraine's accession to the European Union. Important attention was paid to Ukraine's readiness to start negotiations on membership.
"Implementation of recommendations. We need bills that have already been prepared and need to be voted on in the parliament. 226 votes for each decision is an obligation for Ukraine in the European Union," Zelenskyy emphasized.
It is worth noting that the Ukrainian parliament needs at least 226 votes to pass legislative decisions.
Ukraine's accession to the EU
Last year, Ukraine was granted candidate status to join the European Union. To become a member, Ukraine must fulfill a number of recommendations from the European Commission, including reforming the law enforcement and justice systems and fighting corruption.
In June, the EU announced that Ukraine had fulfilled two of the seven conditions for joining the EU.
At the same time, the Ukrainian government emphasizes that it would like to start membership negotiations by the end of this year.
