Zelenskyy explains why he warned Scholz against calling Putin
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy knew that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz was going to call the Russian leader Vladimir Putin. Zelenskyy warned Scholz against talking to Putin.
According to Zelenskyy, Scholz said during the conversation that he was going to call Vladimir Putin. However, the president believes that the call did not bring results.
“What did the chancellor get after phone call? Nothing. Nothing new,” the head of state said.
He added that the political isolation of the Russian leader also puts pressure on him.
“We fighting not only with weapons, as you properly said, with diplomacy. Diplomacy is so important. And only diplomacy can end this war,” Zelenskyy said.
According to him, the US and European intelligence agencies have been interacting with the Russian side even during the war in Ukraine, but this does not contradict their policy of political isolation.
“You have not recognized Putin as president because he is a killer. Otherwise, you will destroy this political isolation,” Zelenskyy said.
Scholz and Putin's conversation
On November 15, it became known that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz had a telephone conversation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. Before the call, Scholz spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The latter was against this conversation.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, commenting on the talks, said that the conversation between Scholz and Putin would not help achieve peace in Ukraine.
After the call, Scholz himself said that Putin had not changed his mind about the war against Ukraine.
