The only way to force Russian leader Vladimir Putin to engage in serious negotiations is to grant Ukraine the ability to strike military and energy facilities deep inside Russia, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated in an interview with Axios.
According to the publication, Zelenskyy told Trump that Ukraine would not even need to immediately use the missiles. If Putin realizes that refusing to negotiate threatens "problems with Russia’s energy facilities," he will agree to talks.
"We speak not only about Tomahawks. The US has a lot of similar things that don't require much time for training. I think the way to work with Putin is only through pressure," Zelenskyy said.
Tomahawks for Ukraine
It should be recalled that Zelenskyy discussed with US President Donald Trump the possibility of supplying Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine during their meeting at the White House. Zelenskyy even proposed a deal under which the United States could receive thousands of Ukrainian drones in exchange.
However, Trump refused to supply the Tomahawks, explaining that the United States currently needs them. According to The Wall Street Journal, during negotiations in Washington, Trump told Zelenskyy that he should not expect deliveries of Tomahawk missiles in the near future.
At the same time, the head of the Ukrainian state made it clear that he does not rule out such supplies.
Zelenskyy also stated that Ukraine has never used American weapons to strike Russian territory. According to him, Ukraine already possesses new domestically produced weapons capable of hitting enemy targets at a distance of 150 to 3,000 kilometers.
