Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during a press conference with Ireland’s Prime Minister Micheál Martin that Ukraine will wait for signals from the United States after its meeting with the Russian side. He noted that the American delegation is expected to report immediately after the negotiations.
"First of all, there will be a meeting of the American delegation in Russia. We will await the corresponding signals from them. They want to report directly to us right after their meeting. I think that our future steps will depend on these signals," the president stressed.
According to him, the steps may change throughout the day and possibly even hour by hour. Zelenskyy added that Ukraine “is receiving various signals.”
"If the signals work out as they should, if it’s fair play with our partners, then we may meet very quickly. We may meet with the American delegation. At what level — we will see, again depending on the signals," the Ukrainian leader said.
He noted that the level of the meeting will be higher if the signals allow for making global but quick decisions.
"If this is still just dialogue — you know, there’s a lot of dialogue, but we need results. Every day, our people are dying. With all due respect to all nations of the world — those who help us and those who, unfortunately, do not. It is Ukrainians who are dying," Zelenskyy said.
The president emphasized that dialogue can continue, but the key is achieving a result.
"You can just talk endlessly, or you can actually do everything possible to bring the end of the war closer. I am ready to receive all signals, ready for a meeting with President Trump. Everything depends on today’s conversations," he stated.
Meeting between US and Russian delegations
As a reminder, on December 2 in Moscow, US President’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and the American leader’s son-in-law Jared Kushner will meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin to discuss the latest version of the peace plan on ending Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine.
According to Russian officials, the American delegation will include no one else besides translators. Before the Moscow trip, Witkoff and the Ukrainian delegation held lengthy negotiations in Geneva and Florida.
Ahead of the meeting, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the latest version of the peace plan looks better and that he received a detailed report from the delegation.
Zelenskyy also announced today that the Ukrainian delegation that participated in the Florida talks has arrived in Ireland. According to him, after revisions, the peace plan now consists of 20 points.
