Zelenskyy dismisses Ukraine's ambassador to US

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has dismissed Ukraine's Ambassador to the United States, Olha Stefanishyna, according to a decree signed by the head of state.
"Dismiss Olha Stefanishyna from the post of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the United States of America," the decree says.
There is no decree appointing a new Ukrainian ambassador to the United States yet.
What Stefanishyna says
According to Stefanishyna, she made the decision to step down herself.
"It is important for me to make such decisions on my own, especially since the main points of the plan I came up with have been accomplished," she added.
The former ambassador noted that she would comment separately in the near future on the issues that "have recently been raised in the media."
Investigation involving Stefanishyna
In July 2025, the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office began investigating possible wrongdoing by Olha Stefanishyna.
This followed a journalistic investigation. Ukrainska Pravda (a Ukrainian online news outlet) claimed that people from Stefanishyna's circle had received valuable assets under the management of the Asset Recovery and Management Agency, including the Trade Unions Building in Kyiv.
Law enforcement authorities have not yet completed the investigation.
Who could become ambassador
Just a few weeks ago, the Verkhovna Rada (Ukraine's parliament) dismissed the Cabinet of Ministers led by Yulia Svyrydenko.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy offered Svyrydenko the post of Ukraine's ambassador to the United States.
As of July 14, the former prime minister had not yet accepted the president's offer.
Last week, Stefanishyna said that Zelenskyy had not wanted to dismiss her.
