President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a phone conversation with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. They discussed Italy's tenth aid package and strengthening Ukraine's air defense systems, according to the president's Telegram channel.

According to the president, during the talks, he informed Meloni about the current situation on the battlefield. The parties discussed continued military support for Ukraine and accelerating the delivery of Italy's 10th aid package.

"We agreed to enhance coordination among European leaders to discuss the security situation in the region and to increase the supply of air defense systems for Ukraine," he added.

As reported by ANSA, Meloni, in turn, expressed "360-degree" support for Ukraine and confirmed Italy's readiness to host a conference on recovery and reconstruction in Rome in 2025.

Italy's support for Ukraine

Italy has been actively supporting Ukraine in its resistance against Russian aggression since the beginning of the full-scale war. It provides military assistance, including artillery, air defense systems, and ammunition. Italy also participates in training Ukrainian soldiers as part of European programs. Political support includes approving sanctions against Russia and consistently reaffirming solidarity with Ukraine on international platforms.

In early December, Reuters reported that Italy is preparing a new military aid package for Ukraine, which could be approved by the end of 2024.
