Russian forces continue strikes and assaults on the front line. The heaviest fighting is currently underway in the directions of Pokrovsk, Lyman, and Kupiansk, says Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

"We hope the American side will be decisive on sanctions to help bring peace. So far, we see only new Russian strikes and new Russian assaults," Zelenskyy said.

He noted a briefing from the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, earlier today.

"The situation on the front remains difficult — in some directions we record increased Russian activity. The most serious fighting is in the directions of Pokrovsk, Lyman, and Kupiansk," the president said.

At the same time, Zelenskyy said Ukrainian forces continue their operation near Kursk.

"It (Kursk operation -ed.) holds back a significant number of Russian troops from activity on the territory of Ukraine. The war must move onto the territory of Russia — there, from where it came," Zelenskyy concluded.

In the past 24 hours, from May 30 to May 31, Russian forces lost over 1,200 soldiers in battles against Ukraine. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, Russian casualties have reached about 987,330 troops.

Meanwhile, the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed 54 artillery systems, 145 drones, and 109 enemy vehicles in the last day.
