Russia launched a massive attack on Ukraine on the eve of the UN General Assembly. The world must strengthen sanctions against Russia, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says.

Zelenskyy reminds that rescue operations and debris removal are currently underway after the Russian strike on Zaporizhzhia. According to him, guided aerial bombs hit civilian infrastructure and residential buildings.

"Fifteen apartment buildings and ten private houses have been damaged. As of now, three people are confirmed killed. My condolences to their families and loved ones," he says.

The President also reports that Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy, Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Kherson regions were hit by Russian drones during the night. In total, over 140 drones were recorded, some of which were Shahed drones.

Zelenskyy emphasizes that the relevant services are working wherever necessary.

UN General Assembly

The President also reminds that the UN General Assembly is beginning its work. He stresses that this is the fourth time that Russia has accompanied this annual diplomatic event with its killings.

"That is precisely why it is so important for this diplomatic week to be productive. Action must be taken so that murder and war do not become routine. Real, powerful pressure on Russia is needed; new joint steps from everyone in the world who believes that international law must work again," Zelenskyy says.

He adds that sanctions, political pressure, and Russia's responsibility for the war are necessary, and expressed gratitude to all partners for their support of Ukraine.
