Zelenskyy appoints new Ukraine ambassador to Georgia after years-long vacancy

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has appointed Mykhailo Brodovych as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Georgia. The relevant decree No. 83/2026 was signed by the head of state on January 26, 2026.
"Appoint Mykhailo Brodovych as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Georgia," the document states.
The post of Ukraine’s ambassador to Georgia had remained vacant since 2022, following the end of Ihor Dolhov’s diplomatic mission. During this period, Ukraine was represented in Tbilisi by chargés d’affaires, with five officials rotating through the role in less than four years. Since 2025, the position of chargé d’affaires has been held by Roman Yakovenko.
Who is Brodovych
Mykhailo Brodovych has served in Ukraine’s diplomatic service at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1996. Over the years, he has held posts as consul at Ukraine’s Consulate General in Istanbul, Consul General of Ukraine in Krakow, and from 2015 to 2022 served as Ukraine’s ambassador to Slovenia.
Zelenskyy reshuffles Ukraine’s ambassadors in 16 countries
In July, President Zelenskyy appointed new ambassadors to 16 countries.
Under a series of decrees, Zelenskyy dismissed Ukraine’s ambassadors to South Africa, Mexico, Uzbekistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Canada, Estonia, Italy, Cyprus, South Korea, Mongolia, Sweden, Kenya, Tanzania, the UAE, and Bahrain, later appointing new diplomats to those posts.
