Zelenskyy announces preparations for strengthening Ukraine's air defense
Ukraine is preparing to strengthen its air defense, which may happen next week, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's statement.
"Next week - we are already preparing - we will definitely increase the capabilities of our state. In particular, our defense-industrial complex. We are also preparing new packages of military support from our partners. We are preparing to strengthen our air defense - this is an unchanged priority," he said.
Air defense systems for Ukraine
Ukraine has received the entire nomenclature list of air defense systems agreed upon with Western partners. However, the country needs more of these systems in terms of quantity. According to Yurii Ihnat, the spokesperson for the Air Force, Ukraine needs more systems like Patriot, SAMP/T IRIS-T, and NASAMS to protect the country and the objects that the enemy may try to attack and destroy.
In particular, a multi-level air defense system has been built around Kyiv, consisting of various types of weaponry. At the same time, no air defense system, including the one in the capital, guarantees complete protection.
According to Zelenskyy, the most challenging situation with air defense systems is in the border regions with Russia and Belarus in Ukraine. This also applies to the frontline and occupied regions.
