A new meeting between the Ukrainian delegation and US President Donald Trump’s special envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, could take place next week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said while speaking to journalists.
He said that on October 16, Rustem Umerov, head of Ukraine’s Foreign Intelligence Service, had been in contact with US representatives, including Kushner.
"They are arranging a meeting. I am also ready to meet with them. I think they will find an opportunity this week, and we will work out a format for the meeting," the president said.
Zelenskyy added that a meeting between the Ukrainian and US delegations had been scheduled to take place in Brussels, but the US side was unable to attend.
He noted that the US venue for negotiations would remain available.
"We expect them to put more pressure on Putin, not on us. Otherwise, it is unfair," the president stressed.
According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine is ready to meet with the US delegation in any country the Americans choose.
"We are ready to negotiate anywhere and in any format — trilateral, bilateral, or four-party negotiations. It does not matter. What matters is peace. There is an opportunity for a meeting with them next week. The American side has given us a signal that a meeting could take place,” Zelensky added.
Previous meeting with Trump’s team
The meeting between the Ukrainian, US, and European delegations in Miami on October 10 ended ahead of schedule.
This happened after US President Donald Trump announced a deal with Russian leader Vladimir Putin on the same day, under which he planned to purchase Russian diesel fuel.
Western media outlets have reported that the deal came as a shock to both Ukrainian and European officials.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that the United States had effectively used Ukraine’s negotiating team as a cover for its own arrangements with Russia.
