President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the approach to the use of air defense by the Ukrainian Air Force will be updated.

"There will be a new approach to the use of air defense by the Air Force — this concerns mobile fire units, interceptor drones, and other means of short-range air defense. This system will be transformed," the country’s leader said.

Zelenskyy added that he had approved the appointment of a new deputy commander of the Air Force, Pavlo Yelizarov.

"He is known in the army — Lazar, a special unit that works, and works effectively. Together with the Minister of Defense of Ukraine and the military leadership, a new structure for this entire component of air defense is to be developed — and it will be developed," the president emphasized.

The president issued specific instructions to Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov regarding the activities of the Air Force and strengthening the country’s airspace protection.

Recently, Zelenskyy noted that, earlier, Ukraine had several air defense systems without missiles, but the necessary ammunition has already arrived.

At the same time, the Ministry of Defense emphasizes that the country still needs additional missiles for the Patriot and NASAMS systems in order to protect critical infrastructure from massive Russian attacks.

In addition, the Ukrainian leader stated that Ukraine is still unable to independently produce missiles for Western air defense systems. According to Zelenskyy, Western partners are not yet ready to grant Ukraine licenses to manufacture such missiles.
