The Ukrainian head of state said that he discussed with Trump the issues that the US and Ukrainian negotiation teams will work on tomorrow in Geneva.

The leaders also touched on the topic of the next trilateral meeting scheduled for early March.

"We expect that it will allow us to move to negotiations at the level of leaders. President Trump supports this sequence of steps. Only in this way can all complex and sensitive issues be resolved and the war finally brought to an end," Zelenskyy said.

Peace talks between Ukraine, Russia, and the US

The phone conversation between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump comes after Ukraine, Russia, and the US have conducted three rounds of peace talks.

The Ukrainian head of state recently stated that the parties have made progress on the military side of the negotiations. This includes discussions on monitoring a ceasefire and ending the war. According to him, Ukraine, Russia, and the US have all been constructive in this regard.

However, there is a lack of progress on the political side of the talks. Russia continues to demand that Ukraine "give" it the entire Donetsk region. This remains the aggressor’s main condition for ending the war.

Ukraine, in turn, considers it fair for negotiations to be based on the current front line.

Zelenskyy also recently noted that the US has repeated Russia’s demand to Ukraine to withdraw troops from Donbas for a "quick end to the war."

Tomorrow, February 26, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov, is scheduled to meet with US Special Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff in Geneva. This could be followed by a new round of trilateral talks between Ukraine, the US, and Russia.
