Zelenskyy and Trump agree to meet, but no exact time yet
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US presidential candidate Donald Trump have agreed to meet. However, the date, time, and format of the meeting are still unknown, says the press secretary of the President of Ukraine Serhii Nykyforov.
He emphasized there was a “principled consent” for a meeting between Zelenskyy and Trump.
“We discussed certain periods when this meeting could take place, but it's too early to say. The teams will work and agree on schedules and details when it is possible,” the spokesman said.
Asked whether the US presidential candidate might come to Ukraine, Nykyforov said: “It is too early to talk about it. It was indeed discussed when it (the meeting - ed.) should happen and where it should happen, but the specifics are very premature - the format, time, and place.”
According to Nykyforov, Zelenskyy urged Trump not to believe those countries that try to explain or somehow justify the actions of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Zelenskyy also told Trump about the Russian strike on Mykolaiv on July 19, as well as the shelling of the Okhmatdyt children's hospital in Kyiv.
“Trump said, this is his trademark phrase, not to believe fake news that his victory in the election could be beneficial to Russia. He called this thesis fake and urged us not to believe it,” Nykyforov added.
Zelenskyy and Trump's conversation
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US presidential candidate Donald Trump had a phone call. Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of bipartisan and bicameral support for Ukraine from the United States.
After the talks, Trump said that the conversation was “very good.” He promised to “bring peace and end the war.”
Zelenskyy had a phone conversation with Trump for the first time since 2021.
