Zelenskyy and Norway PM advance critical FREYJA interceptor missile program

A meeting between the President of Ukraine and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre took place in Oslo. The parties discussed strengthening Ukraine's air defense, including the need for interceptor missiles for Patriot systems, and preparations for the heating season, according to the website of the President of Ukraine.
First and foremost, the leaders discussed strengthening air defense. Volodymyr Zelenskyy outlined Ukraine's needs for interceptor missiles, primarily for Patriot systems.
Ukraine counts on Norway's support, particularly through the PURL mechanism, where Norway is a leading contributor.
They also separately discussed further work on the FREYJA anti-ballistic program - the parties reviewed preliminary results and agreed on next steps.
Detailed discussions also covered Ukraine's preparations for the heating season. Last year, Norway already provided significant energy assistance - now the leaders discussed Ukraine's needs and Norway's capacity to support the country again this winter.
At the beginning of the meeting, Zelenskyy expressed condolences over the death of King Harald V of Norway. The President noted that it is important for him to attend the farewell ceremony on September 9; Ukraine appreciates the support from the royal family and the entire Norwegian people.
A Russian vessel has already been arrested in Norway due to Naftogaz's claims of $4.22 billion - the decision was made as part of the enforcement of an arbitral award against Russia.
In addition, ahead of Independence Day, Ukraine's partners announced several defense steps at once; in particular, Norway and other countries promised Gripen, SCALP, and a drone deal - ranging from fighter jet training to joint drone production.
