Zelensky on talks with Putin and timing of war in Ukraine
Any compromises with the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, including negotiations, are absolutely impossible. The war will continue, "as long as Russia remains on Ukrainian territory," according to the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in an interview with The Economist.
According to Zelenskyy, if negotiations were to be allowed, the discussed agreement would not be permanent because the Russian president has a habit of creating "frozen conflicts" on Russia's borders (such as in Georgia), not as ends in themselves but because his goal is to "restore the Soviet Union".
The President of Ukraine believes that those who choose to talk to the man in the Kremlin are "tricking themselves", much like the Western leaders who signed an agreement with Adolf Hitler at Munich in 1938 only to watch him invade Czechoslovakia.
"The mistake is not diplomacy. The mistake is diplomacy with Putin. He negotiates only with himself," Zelenskyy affirmed.
Zelenskyy on the war in Ukraine
In the same interview, Zelenskyy said that the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin does not understand that he is losing in a prolonged war. At the same time, the president himself does not want to think about a long war, but that is precisely what he is preparing for.
Recently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine is "ready for a long war without losing people." According to him, the main goal is to "minimize casualties, as with Israel's example." In June 2022, the Ukrainian president expressed a desire for the full-scale war between Russia and Ukraine to end by the end of the year, before winter sets in.
