In the cooling pond of Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, a slight decrease in water level is being observed. However, the situation remains stable and controlled, according to NNEGC "Energoatom".

"Despite the detonation of the Kahovka Hydro Power Plant (HPP) dams by Russian occupiers, the situation remains stable and controlled. As of 08:00 on August 18, a slight decrease in water level in the cooling pond is observed. Currently, it stands at 16.16 meters," the statement says.

Tthe water level in the "hot" channel of Zaporizhzhia Thermal Power Plant, which feeds the ZNPP cooling pond when necessary, is 17.14 meters. In the "cold" channel, the water level reaches a mark of 10.80 meters.

"It should be noted that recently the water level in both channels has hardly decreased, and the indicators are no longer dependent on the Kahovka reservoir, as it has been destroyed by the invaders," added "Energoatom."

The situation at Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant

Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant has been occupied by Russian Forces since the beginning of Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine. The Russians not only violate the operational regime of the plant but also use its storage facilities for equipment and personnel. Throughout the occupation, the plant has been disconnected from Ukraine's power grid several times.

In early July, Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant was successfully connected to the only available backup power line for the first time in four months. However, the situation at the plant became more complicated after the detonation of Kahovka Hydroelectric Power Plant, which provided cooling water for the plant.

Furthermore, due to the criminal actions of the Russian occupiers at Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, an incident occurred on the fourth power block involving a water leak from the first circuit to the second circuit. There was no radiological release into the environment.
