Ex-army chief Zaluzhnyi dismissed from military service, Zelenskyy signs decree Former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valerii Zaluzhnyi (Vitalii Nosach, RBC-Ukraine)

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a decree dismissing the former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valerii Zaluzhnyi from military service.

"To dismiss General Zaluzhnyi Valerii Fedorovych from military service on health grounds with the right to wear military uniforms," the decree reads.

Valerii Zaluzhnyi was appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on July 27, 2021. He resigned on February 8, 2024. Instead, the President appointed Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, to replace him. The next day, on February 9, Zaluzhnyi was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine.

In March, the deputy head of the Presidential Office, Andrii Sybiha, reported launching the procedure for appointing Zaluzhnyi as Ukraine's ambassador to the UK.
