'Your children won't die in Ukraine,' Zelenskyy assures the French after Macron's statement
French should know that their children will not die in the war in Ukraine, because the country is not a member of NATO, says President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy in an interview with BFM TV.
He has added that his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, wants to discuss this in more detail during his visit to Ukraine, and he understands the French leader's words.
"What he said, that we cannot 'rule anything out,' I think primarily it is related to Vladimir Putin: as long as Ukraine holds out, the French army can stay on French territory," assures Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
But the President of Ukraine adds that if the dictator Vladimir Putin manages to attack another NATO member, the situation will be completely different. Zelensyy has said that NATO members themselves will have to decide whether to send their army or not.
However, Volodymyr Zelenskyy assures the French that their children will not die in Ukraine because the country is not a NATO member.
Foreign troops might be needed for what
According to the president, it would be possible to consider the presence of foreign technical personnel on the territory of Ukraine.
In this regard, he cited the example of Leopard tanks and Caesar self-propelled artillery units, which are being sent back to the territory of European countries for repair.
Zelenskyy is confident that Macron has strengthened his position on Putin because he understands that the Kremlin dictator deceived the French leader and Macron no longer trusts him.
Macron's statement
At the end of February this year, French President Emmanuel Macron did not rule out sending Western troops to help Ukraine. But he clarified that there was no consensus on this issue.
Later, Macron clarified that the sending of French troops to Ukraine was possible in case of a repeat advance of Russian troops on Kyiv or Odesa.
Some countries have already publicly opposed such an initiative.
