Yalta occupation authoroties visit Türkiye: Ukraine's MFA strongly reacts
Representatives of the so-called administration of the temporarily occupied Yalta have arrived in for the meeting of the International Organization of United Cities and Local Governments. Ukraine is awaiting an explanation from Ankara, according to the Spokesperson of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oleg Nikolenko.
He mentions that besides attending the meeting of the International organization of united cities and local governments, the occupiers discussed the possibility of establishing sister-city relations with the municipal district of Beylikdüzü in Istanbul.
"We take this situation very seriously. The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already requested official explanations from the Turkish side regarding the status of the visit by representatives of the Russian occupation administration," Nikolaenko said.
The spokesperson of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reminds that Crimea is a part of Ukraine's territory temporarily occupied by Russia. According to UN General Assembly resolutions, all parties should refrain from actions that could call into question the status of Crimea. This also pertains to contacts with the occupation administrations.
"We expect the Turkish authorities, who support the territorial integrity of Ukraine, to react properly to the Russian provocation and prevent its recurrence in the future," Nikolenko added.
It's worth noting that Türkiye does not recognize the annexation of Crimea by Russia.
Additionally, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated that the world's reaction to the occupation of the peninsula was insufficient and suggested that the current war could have been avoided.
