Ukrainian, American, and European delegations meeting in Oslo on October 20 discussed pathways to end the war. The issue of security guarantees for Ukraine was also raised, states Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at a press conference following the meeting.
Security guarantees for Ukraine
According to the president, the parties discussed security guarantees for Ukraine.
He said he was grateful to the Americans for stating that they would be strong, adding that they had discussed various proposals, including NATO’s Article 5 and security guarantees similar to it.
Zelenskyy noted that there are different types of security guarantees: those on paper, in a formal document, and those that Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff will deliver to the Russian side (during a meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin on October 21 in St. Petersburg - ed.).
The president clarified that they would receive a response within a day.
Finnish President Alexander Stubb noted that the negotiations in Oslo allowed for real progress to be achieved.
According to him, the discussions focused on air defense, energy facilities, and a partial ceasefire, for example, in the areas of energy and food security.
