Witkoff meets Putin in Moscow to discuss Ukraine war settlement

The special representative of the US President, Steve Witkoff, flew to Moscow on April 25 to discuss the settlement of the war. He met with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, according to Russian media.
Witkoff flew to Moscow this morning. Footage of his plane landing was published by Russian media.
The special representative of the US President in Moscow first met with the General Director of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, Kirill Dmitriev. Footage of their “walk” around Moscow was also shared online.
In the afternoon, Peskov reported that Putin was receiving Witkoff in the Kremlin. Currently, the details of their meeting are unknown.
This is already the fourth meeting between Witkoff and Putin since Donald Trump returned to the White House. Previously, they met on April 11 in St. Petersburg, and their negotiations then lasted four and a half hours.
Steve Witkoff holds the position of US Special Representative for Middle Eastern Affairs and is a participant in the negotiation process regarding the settlement of Russia’s war against Ukraine. Witkoff is responsible for contacts with the Russian side.
Negotiations regarding the war
Ukraine and the Russian Federation are not conducting direct negotiations on ending the war. Two rounds of negotiations were held in Saudi Arabia between Ukraine and the United States, as well as between Washington and Moscow.
Also this week, on April 23, negotiations took place in London with the participation of Ukraine, the United States, Britain, France, and Germany. It was expected that there would be a ministerial-level meeting, but US Secretary of State Marco Rubio did not come.
According to media reports, Rubio boycotted the negotiations because Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy refused a key US proposal — to recognize Crimea as Russian.
The negotiations in London took place at the level of national security advisors. As Zelenskyy noted, during the meeting, proposals for a peace plan were developed and handed over to Donald Trump.
