US President’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and the American leader’s son-in-law Jared Kushner briefed Donald Trump on the results of talks on Ukraine and Iran held in Geneva, according to Barak Ravid, a journalist at Axios, on X.
"President Trump met today with his advisers Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner and was briefed on the nuclear talks with Iran, the Russia-Ukraine negotiations and the Gaza Board of Peace meeting that will take place tomorrow, per US officials," the journalist stated.
Geneva talks
On February 18, the latest round of negotiations between Ukraine, the US, and Russia on ending the war concluded in Geneva after two days of dialogue.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said it is too early to discuss the results in detail until Ukrainian negotiators return to Kyiv. However, based on what he heard by phone, there has been progress on the military track, particularly regarding ceasefire monitoring, which Washington is expected to oversee. This was described as a positive signal.
At the same time, the political track remains complicated. Russia continues to insist on the full withdrawal of troops from the Donetsk region, while the issue of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, which Moscow seeks to fully control, remains contentious.
The White House said it sees progress in US-mediated talks between Ukraine and Russia and noted that the parties agreed to continue working. The next round of dialogue is expected in about two weeks.
According to sources, the Kremlin’s appointment of Vladimir Medinsky as head of the Russian delegation could indicate either an attempt to prolong the process or a signal of a more ultimatum-driven negotiating stance.
Separately, on February 18, the US also held talks with Iran, as tensions between Washington and Tehran remain close to escalation.
