In an interview with RBC-Ukraine, Ziferblat talked about the meaning behind their song. It carried special significance.
“The song ‘Bird of Pray’ is, above all, about freedom. About the cycle of life and hope for a happy future. It’s a reflective song, whose title can literally be translated as ‘Prayer Bird’ or ‘Bird of Prayer.’ It’s like a journey-confession. I tried to put into it all the chaos, anxiety, worries, and hopes that have lived in my heart since 2022,” said Valentyn Leshchynskyi, the band’s guitarist.
Besides that, there was hidden symbolism in the musicians’ performance. In an interview with RBC-Ukraine, music critic Roman Buturlakin noted that the concept of the performance was very interesting because the band had to follow Eurovision rules but still remind everyone about the war.
“I’m sure there are many hidden meanings that will be revealed to us later... At one point, during the peak of the final chorus, I had the impression that it shows a person running during an air raid alert, because the lighting conveys it very well, and then Dania falls to his knees,” the critic said.
“So, there are these encrypted meanings in the Eurovision style, where you can’t say anything directly. And I really like those kinds of allegories, when there’s something to think about, something to decode, something to discuss,” he added.
