Serhii Koretskyi has become Ukraine's new prime minister after lawmakers approved his nomination on July 16.
A total of 289 lawmakers voted in favor of appointing Koretskyi as prime minister.
Cabinet reshuffle
Parliament began the process of reshuffling Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers earlier this week. On July 15, lawmakers accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko, triggering the resignation of her entire government.
Since President Volodymyr Zelenskyy unveiled plans to overhaul the Cabinet, discussions have centered on the expected personnel changes. Most ministers from Svyrydenko's government are expected to keep their posts, while several are likely to be replaced.
Who is Serhii Koretskyi?
Serhii Koretskyi is a Ukrainian executive who has served as CEO of Naftogaz of Ukraine (Ukraine's largest state oil and gas company) since 2025. Before that, he built an extensive career in the private sector and in managing state-owned energy companies.
Education
Koretskyi holds three university degrees: in Automobiles and Automotive Engineering and Business Economics from Lutsk Technical University, and in Oil and Gas Production from Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas. In 2019, he also completed an Executive MBA program at the Kyiv-Mohyla Business School.
Business career
Koretskyi spent nearly two decades (1997–2018) with the Continuum Group, where he became CEO of the WOG gas station chain in 2013. During his tenure, the company introduced new business strategies and expanded its coffee shop business.
He later developed his own ventures, including the IDEALIST coffee shop chain and the Swiss energy trading company Centurion Group SA.
Ukrnafta
In November 2022, Koretskyi was appointed CEO of Ukrnafta and Ukrtatnafta. Under his leadership, the companies modernized equipment and launched new drilling projects.
In April 2025, Naftogaz's supervisory board appointed him as the company's CEO.
Leading Naftogaz during the war
Koretskyi took over Naftogaz during a difficult period as Russia intensified missile and drone attacks on Ukraine's gas infrastructure, causing significant losses in the country's daily gas production.
