Ukraine's Defense Intelligence (HUR) has confirmed preparations for a new stage of the "1000-for-1000" prisoner exchange. It is already known who could be returned from Russian captivity, HUR spokesperson Andrii Yusov said during a press conference.
Who could be included in the next exchange
Yusov said that various categories of Ukrainians remain in Russian captivity. Among them are:
- prisoners who have been held since 2022;
- women;
- seriously ill and severely wounded captives;
- representatives of different military units and branches.
According to the spokesperson, details about specific individuals will only be disclosed once the exchanges are fully prepared.
Earlier, Dmytro Usov, secretary of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, together with Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets, said that the next exchange would be "mixed."
As previously reported by RBC-Ukraine, the first stage of the large-scale "1000-for-1000" exchange took place on May 15. A total of 205 Ukrainian service members returned home. Most of them had spent four years in captivity.
Meanwhile, as part of the same exchange, 20 Azov fighters were freed from Russian captivity. Nineteen of them had defended Mariupol.
