White House says Ukraine will not receive nuclear weapons - Newsweek
The threats made by Russian President Vladimir Putin have led to increased discussions about nuclear war, as well as the possibility of returning nuclear weapons to Ukraine, Newsweek reports.
According to the agency, many politicians are now discussing nuclear war as the conflict between the US and its NATO allies and Russia intensifies over the war in Ukraine.
The impetus for this was Putin's recent signing of an updated nuclear doctrine, which emphasizes that Russia will make all necessary efforts to reduce nuclear threats and aims to prevent escalation between states that could lead to military conflicts, including nuclear ones.
Following this, rumors spread that the United States might provide Ukraine with nuclear weapons.
However, the White House told Newsweek: "We are not planning to equip Ukraine with nuclear weapons."
Another provocation by Russia
Recently, Putin approved changes to Russia's nuclear doctrine. The amendments stipulate that Russia will be able to use nuclear weapons in response to a large-scale drone attack or an assault on its territory by a "non-nuclear state with the support of a nuclear one."
Later, Ukrainian General Staff spokesperson Vladyslav Seleznov stated that these changes would not lead to the actual use of Russian nuclear weapons.
Subsequently, the media began reporting that after Donald Trump’s victory in the US presidential election, the Biden administration focused on helping Ukraine, including the potential return of nuclear weapons to Ukraine.
