US President Donald Trump was not surprised that Russia violated the energy ceasefire and struck Ukraine’s critical infrastructure, states White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, according to CNN.

Leavitt was asked about Trump’s reaction to the new wave of Russian strikes on Ukraine.
"I spoke with the president about it this morning, and his reaction was, unfortunately, unsurprised. These are two countries who have been engaged in a very brutal war for several years, a war that would have never started if the president were still in office," she replied.
The press secretary also confirmed that talks between Ukraine and Russia, mediated by the United States, will take place later this week.
Violation of the energy ceasefire
On January 29, US President Donald Trump said that he had asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to stop strikes on Ukraine’s civilian cities amid colder weather. The ceasefire was supposed to last for one week.
For his part, Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that the Kremlin had agreed to halt strikes only until February 1.
Later, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy clarified that the energy ceasefire came into effect on the night of January 30.
On the night of February 3, the Russian forces launched another massive attack on Ukraine, using a large number of ballistic missiles and attack drones.
The head of the Ukrainian state emphasized that the Russians held out for only four days and violated the ceasefire. He noted that he is waiting for a response from the United States to the attack.
