The White House stated the breakdown of negotiations between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US leader Donald Trump. The statement emphasized that the United States would not allow other countries to take advantage of it for their own interests.

The White House noted that Trump and US Vice President JD Vance "stand up for Americans."

"President Donald J. Trump and Vice President JD Vance will always stand up for the interests of the American people and those who respect the United States’ position in the world — and will never allow the American people to be taken advantage of," the statement read.

Zelenskyy and Trump's dispute

Earlier today, February 28, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived on an official visit to the United States. He met with US President Donald Trump.

However, during a conversation with journalists, a dispute broke out between Zelenskyy and Trump regarding the war in Ukraine.

Zelenskyy reminded everyone that the war in Ukraine had not ended under Barack Obama, Donald Trump, or Joe Biden. This statement triggered a strong reaction from US Vice President Vance and later from Trump himself.

Following the disagreement, Zelenskyy left the White House ahead of schedule. The signing of an agreement between Ukraine and the US on rare earth metals was canceled.

Additionally, the US President stated that Zelenskyy was not ready for peace.
