Where should eggs be stored? British doctors reveal

The optimal storage conditions for eggs have sparked a debate among British households and health experts. The discussion was ultimately settled by the UK's National Health Service (NHS) and the Food Standards Agency (FSA), according to to Lad Bible.
Where to store eggs
For years, Britons have debated whether food should be stored in the fridge, or kitchen cupboards. The discussion extended to eggs, as some believed they could remain fresh outside the fridge.
However, the FSA, the UK government body responsible for food safety, has clarified that eggs should be stored in a cool, dry place, ideally in the refrigerator. The agency explained that temperature fluctuations can lead to condensation on the eggshell, increasing the risk of salmonella penetration.
According to the NHS, symptoms of infection can appear within six to 36 hours and may include diarrhea, stomach pain, fever, nausea, and fatigue. To prevent the spread of infection, the NHS advises waiting 48 hours after the last symptom before returning to work, school, or daycare.
Can you eat eggs after their expiry date?
Regarding expired eggs, the FSA states they can sometimes be used a few days past their best-before date, depending on how they are cooked.
Eggs without an off-putting smell or visible spoilage can be used in baking, as thorough cooking reduces risks. However, when in doubt, it's best to discard expired eggs and opt for fresh ones instead.
