A meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin will take place when the time is right. It is inevitable, said Sebastian Gorka, Deputy Assistant to the President and Senior Director for counter terrorism, Politico reported.

Gorka emphasized the importance of ending the bloodshed in Ukraine and bringing Putin to the negotiating table to reach a final agreement.

"Deals are all about timing. When the time is right, that’s when the president is in the room with Putin," he said.

The Deputy Assistant to the President of the United States added that such a moment is "imminent."

Talks in Istanbul

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy agreed to direct negotiations with Russia, as proposed by Vladimir Putin. Zelenskyy stated he would speak only with Putin and would wait for him on May 15 in Türkiye.

However, Putin ignored the meeting with Zelenskyy and instead sent low-level Kremlin officials to Istanbul.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed skepticism about the outcome of the Russia-Ukraine talks. He noted that only a personal meeting between the presidents of the US and Russia could potentially break the deadlock.

At the same time, US President Donald Trump believes there will be no breakthrough in negotiations over Ukraine until he meets with Putin.
