US President Donald Trump believes that there will be no progress in the negotiations on Ukraine until he meets with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

Journalists asked the US president if he was disappointed with the level of the delegation that the Russians sent for talks with Ukraine, which did not include Putin.

"I’m not disappointed. Why would I be?.. I know nothing about a delegation, I haven’t even checked," Trump said.

At the same time, the American leader is confident that negotiations on Ukraine will not move forward until he meets with Putin.

"Nothing’s gonna happen until Putin and I get together, ok? And obviously — he wasn’t going to go. He was going to go, but he thought I was going. He wasn’t going if I wasn’t there and I don’t believe anything’s going to happen, whether you like it or not, until he and I get together. But we’re going to have to get it solved because too many people are dying," Trump said.

Earlier today, Trump said that Russia's Vladimir Putin did not come to Türkiye for talks with Ukraine because he was not there. He also admitted that tomorrow, May 16, he could fly to Türkiye for talks, but only if it is appropriate.

Negotiations in Türkiye

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy agreed to direct talks with Russia, as proposed by dictator Putin. Zelenskyy stated that he would only talk to Putin and would wait for him in Türkiye on May 15.

However, Putin ignored the meeting with Zelenskyy and sent low-level Kremlin officials to Istanbul.

The Ukrainian President has already arrived in Ankara and met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The Ukrainian delegation in Türkiye is represented at the highest level, including representatives of the President's Office, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the military, and intelligence officers.
