What Zelenskyy's choice of suit revealed during his meeting with Trump

Zelensky's style became one of the topics of discussion at the White House on August 18. Designer Elvira Hasanova, owner of the GASANOVA brand, explained the symbolism behind the president's outfit in a comment to OBOZ.

The president maintained his style while making a positive impression on the American leader. He moved away from his usual military look and added more classic elements.
At the White House meeting, Zelenskyy wore a capsule collection from the brand VIKTORANISIMOV, created specifically for him. The outfit consists of a blazer, a classic shirt, and straight trousers.

Meaning behind Zelensky's suit
Hasanova, who has worked with the president multiple times, explained that black symbolizes mourning while also showing strength. It is a gesture of respect for those who died and a demonstration of Ukraine's steadfastness.
The absence of a tie supports his status as a "field" leader even during a visit to the White House.
Special attention is drawn to the blazer's cut, which resembles a uniform more than a conventional suit. It was made from army canvas, often used in military equipment or clothing.
"There is a dual message here: on one hand, 'I am a president at war,' which does not fully conform to traditional diplomatic dress; on the other hand, it signals maturity and readiness to negotiate as equals, thanks to the black suit silhouette," the designer explained.

Reactions at White House
The president's outfit received praise from Trump and journalist Brian Glenn, who, during the controversial February meeting, criticized Zelensky’s previous suit.
This time, the reporter called Zelensky's outfit stylish and apologized for the past incident.
"You look fabulous in that suit," he said.
"I said the same thing," Trump added.
The president joked in response:
"You are in the same suit. I changed, you did not," he told the journalist.
Why Zelenskyy changed his style
It is no secret that he previously preferred a military style, with olive and khaki tones dominating his wardrobe, along with knit polo shirts featuring the trident and practical clothing suited to the times.
Designer Viktor Anisimov created new looks. In an interview with Telegraf, he noted that it wasn't easy to convince Zelenskyy to make changes.
The first lady, Olena Zelenska, played a key role, pointing out that at official meetings, their duo looked "too contrasting."
