Mercury will soon go retrograde, and many people may already be feeling its effects. This event can bring numerous challenges and disrupt all plans. However, everyone can avoid a streak of misfortune.
Exclusively for RBC-Ukraine (Styler project), Ukrainian astrologer Kateryna Solovyova explains how to protect yourself from the disruptive effects of retrograde Mercury and what to do during this period.
What to expect from retrograde Mercury
From August 5 to 28, 2024, Mercury will be in retrograde, and its shadow period has already begun.
According to Solovyova, many people may already be experiencing the effects of this backward movement of the planet affecting areas such as intellect, communication, contacts, means of communication, various gadgets, transportation, travel, documentation, trade, and education.
"Some people view this period as challenging and even fear it. However, I am confident that, if you understand all the nuances, it can be used most effectively. This is especially relevant for those who have astrological elements in 1-5 degrees of Virgo, Taurus, Capricorn, Cancer, Scorpio, and 21-30 degrees of Leo, Aries, Sagittarius, Gemini, and Libra in their individual horoscopes," the astrologer noted.

What is forbidden to do during the retrograde period
Solovyova advises postponing the launch of new projects related to the aforementioned areas. All initiatives may experience delays, confusion, misunderstandings, mistakes, and unforeseen losses.
During Mercury retrograde, it is also advisable to avoid:
- Conducting important negotiations and signing new contracts
- Registering a marriage or purchasing expensive items
- Going on important business trips or traveling by car to unfamiliar places
- Taking exams
- Buying equipment
- Undergoing major surgeries that have not been previously done
"If your work involves information, texts, or documentation, make sure to double-check everything thoroughly, as there could be various inaccuracies due to distraction and carelessness," the astrologer warned.
"I also want to highlight the high likelihood of disappearances, thefts, and fraud during this period, so please stay vigilant, cautious, and attentive," she added.

What to do during Mercury retrograde
During this period, Solovyova explained, it's possible not only to lose things but also to find something that was lost. Additionally, debts may be repaid, and former clients or partners might return.
During Mercury retrograde, consider focusing on:
- Reevaluating, reviewing, and revising anything that was previously done poorly
- Analysis and research
- Closing loose ends and conducting audits
- Reconnecting with old acquaintances
- Restarting forgotten projects
- Retreats
- Traveling to places you have already visited
"Specifically, this period is favorable for those who have a retrograde Mercury in their individual horoscope. Despite the high likelihood of changes to initial plans, this time can still be used to accomplish many useful things," Solovyova emphasized.
"The key is to avoid rushing, think things through carefully, and strive to act wisely. By using time and astrological periods effectively, one can find harmony and achieve significant success," she concluded.
