What not to dress your salad with when trying to lose weight
What to dress a salad with if you are losing weight? Sour cream or oil? What dressing won't make your dish a calorie bomb?
What is the best thing to add to a salad if you are losing weight?
According to Ukrainian coach and nutritionist Yurii Popko, studies show that olive oil, often seen as healthy, can significantly increase the calorie content of even light salads. According to experts, 100 ml of oil contains around 800 kcal, making it extremely high in calories.
Adding two to three tablespoons of oil to a salad could add 240-360 kcal, almost the same as a 100g chocolate bar.
Experts emphasize the importance of calorie control, as even a light salad can represent a substantial part of your daily intake. For example, a salad without dressing might have around 200 kcal, but with oil, it becomes much more calorie-dense.
Experts suggest considering dressing alternatives.
For instance, mayonnaise with 67% fat contains 616 kcal per 100g, and one tablespoon contains 85 kcal.
In contrast, light mayonnaise (30%) has only 296 kcal per 100 g or 41 kcal per tablespoon.
Another good option is 15% sour cream, with just 159 kcal per 100g (22 kcal per tablespoon), or 8% Greek yogurt, containing only 107 kcal per 100g (14 kcal per tablespoon).
Specialists emphasize the importance of paying attention not only to the quality of ingredients but also to their calorie content.
Incorrectly estimating calorie counts can lead to weight gain, even when consuming high-quality, healthy foods. Therefore, maintaining a balanced lifestyle involves considering both the quality and quantity of calories consumed.
