Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is traveling to Washington for a meeting with US leader Donald Trump. In addition to the rare earth metals agreement, they will discuss further support for Ukraine, said Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi during a briefing.
"I believe they will discuss further support and, let’s say, the next steps and documents that will build on this framework agreement," Tykhyi said.
He noted that while both sides have agreed on the text of the agreement, the next steps remain undecided.
"Specific agreements on the fund’s creation and further arrangements stemming from this framework agreement still need to be made. I believe this will be the key focus of the delegation tomorrow," Tykhyi added.
Zelenskyy and Trump's meeting
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy went to the United States on February 27. He will meet with US President Donald Trump on Friday, February 28. The talks are expected to include the signing of an agreement between the two countries that includes a document on rare earths.
As Zelenskyy clarified, the meeting with US President Donald Trump is important. Commenting, in particular, on the document, Zelenskyy noted that the agreement between Ukraine and the United States on rare earth metals could have a great success or go unnoticed.
As for Trump, he said that by signing an agreement with the United States, Ukraine would automatically receive some security guarantees. After all, American investors will be present in Ukraine, and Europe will be watching everything closely.
After the minerals deal, Ukraine plans to sign another agreement with the United States. It will concern an investment fund.
