As of today, Ukraine is indeed in a strong position in peace negotiations to end the war launched by Russia, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told DW.

In the head of state's view, the visit to Kyiv by US President Donald Trump's envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner is a "positive signal."

Zelenskyy explained that during his meeting with Donald Trump's team, he made it clear that Ukraine currently has every opportunity to conduct peace negotiations.

One of Kyiv's main advantages is that the Defense Forces manage to neutralize more than 30,000 Russian invaders every month.

According to Zelenskyy, this is indeed a "big price" for the enemy to pay for meager gains on the battlefield.

Another important advantage for Ukraine is that it has actually become stronger than it was last year.

"So that’s why we think that we have now good position for negotiations," the head of state explained.

Zelenskyy also said he had discussed a potential energy truce with Russia with Trump's envoys. The president believes that such a truce could serve as a starting point for peace.

"What can bring us to any kind of negotiations? So energy and grain. This is step number one. What we can achieve," Zelenskyy concluded.

It was previously reported that Zelenskyy is ready to meet Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in person. He even named a potential place and time.

In addition, the head of state revealed how many missiles Ukraine actually needs each month to intercept Russian ballistic missiles.
