We cannot force Russia to comply with international law - UN
The United Nations (UN) lacks the tools or authority to compel the Russian Federation to comply with international law. It continues to "hope and expect," citing UN General Assembly President Dennis Francis during a press conference in New York.
According to Francis, the UN operates based on shared values and beliefs, hoping that all members of the international organization will fulfill their obligations and respect the territorial integrity of other countries.
He said that while the UN continues to hope and expect Russia to meet its obligations, he doubts that the organization has sufficient means and authority to force the terrorist state to comply with the UN Charter and international law.
Francis also mentioned that the General Assembly had adopted "a number of decisive resolutions" calling on the aggressor to follow the law and withdraw its terrorists from Ukraine.
"I personally added the word 'immediately' to the resolution. This aggression by Russia is a gross violation of international law, and we cannot tolerate it," he said.
RBC-Ukraine previously reported that, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Russian terrorists continue to use special munitions equipped with dangerous chemical substances against Ukrainian defenders.
Additionally, according to Daniel Bell, head of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, Russia has tortured 95% of Ukrainian prisoners of war.
