Vovchansk under control of Ukrainian military by 70%
The city of Vovchansk in the north of Kharkiv region is 70% controlled by the Ukrainian Defense Forces. Currently, there are battles with the Russians on its outskirts, states the spokesperson of the Khortytsia operational and strategic grouping of troops Nazar Voloshyn.
“Currently, the Defense Forces control the city of Vovchansk, about 70%. There are fierce battles with the occupiers in the city and its outskirts, as the Russians keep trying to advance or gain a foothold with small assault groups,” said the Khortytsia spokesperson.
But, according to Voloshyn, the Ukrainian military is doing everything possible to prevent the enemy from gaining a foothold and keep the invaders under fire control. The Vovcha River is also under fire control, the spokesperson said, adding that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are making every effort to prevent the Russians from crossing to the other side.
Russia's offensive in Kharkiv region
In May of this year, the Russian military launched an offensive in the north of the Kharkiv region. The city of Vovchansk was one of the areas of the Russian offensive, but Russian troops failed to capture it quickly. The city is currently being fought over.
At the same time, the United States expressed the opinion that the offensive in the Kharkiv region was a failure for the Russian army. As the White House spokesperson explained, the Ukrainian Armed Forces managed to stop the invaders and inflicted huge losses on them, preventing them from achieving their goals.
