European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. She stated that Europe will support Ukraine in negotiations.

"Dear Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Europe will always stand by Ukraine in the pursuit of peace. You can count on our support at the negotiating table to achieve a just and lasting peace," von der Leyen said.

She also shared that they discussed the steps "Ukraine is taking to earn its place in our family of nations."

Zelenskyy's meetings

Today, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy traveled to the Vatican for the funeral of Pope Francis. Leaders from many countries attended the farewell ceremony.

In particular, before the funeral, Zelenskyy met with US President Donald Trump. The presidents discussed "sensitive issues" related to achieving peace in Ukraine.

Soon after, Trump posted on social media, suggesting that Russian President Vladimir Putin may not want to end the war in Ukraine. He implied that a different approach is needed with him, directly hinting at sanctions.

Zelenskyy also held tête-à-tête meetings with French President Emmanuel Macron and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Details of their conversations are currently unknown.
