Volgograd region reports explosions and drone attack on airfield

Explosions occurred in Volgograd region (Russia) on the night of March 21. Drones were reportedly spotted flying towards a local airfield, according to Mash.
According to Russian media, explosions were heard in the Kalachivsky district. Russians also claim that the target of the drone attack was the Marinivka airfield.
"According to locals, they heard about 5-6 explosions in the Kalachivsky district," the Russian source reports.
Additionally, according to Russian sources, monitoring channels had previously detected approximately motorized drones and 2 jet drones flying towards the Volgograd region.
The authorities of the Volgograd region have not provided any information regarding the drone attack on the region.
Explosions in Volgograd region
Explosions at military and oil facilities have occurred multiple times in this Russian region. For example, in late January, the Ukrainian Defense Forces attacked an oil refinery in the Volgograd region, one of the largest in Russia. This was the Lukoil-Volgogradneftepererabotka refinery.
In early February, drones from the Security Service of Ukraine and Special Operations Forces attacked the Volgograd Oil Refinery. The Ukrainian General Staff confirmed the strikes and clarified that on the night of February 3, Ukrainian forces hit the Lukoil-Volgogradneftepererabotka refinery again.
Additionally, in late September 2024, the Ukrainian Defense Forces used 120 drones to strike a Russian arsenal in the Volgograd region. The attack targeted a storage depot for missiles, ammunition, and explosives in the village of Kotluban.
According to the Center for Countering Disinformation, this arsenal stored, among other things, Iranian ballistic missiles.
