Vilnius pledges additional €10 mln for Ukraine's recovery
Lithuania will direct €10 million to the World Bank Trust Fund established for the liberation, recovery, reconstruction, and reform of Ukraine. These funds will be used to restore damaged energy infrastructure, residential buildings, schools, and hospitals and address other urgent financial needs, according to Lithuania’s Ministry of Finance.
Lithuanian Finance Minister Gintarė Skaistė emphasized that Vilnius continues to support Ukraine amid the ongoing war.
"As Russia's war against Ukraine reaches 1,000 days, Lithuania continues to provide robust financial, humanitarian, and military aid. This fund allows for effective support of the recovery of vital infrastructure and public services, including education, healthcare, and housing," Skaistė said.
This is Lithuania's second contribution to the fund; Vilnius previously allocated €5 million in December 2022.
The World Bank fund, established in December 2022, has united 17 donor countries, raising nearly €2 billion to date.
Since the start of the war, Lithuania has provided Ukraine with over €1.5 billion in aid, including military, financial, and humanitarian assistance. The new funds will be transferred to the trust in the coming days after the necessary legal procedures are completed.
Lithuania’s aid to Ukraine
Lithuania is actively supporting Ukraine militarily. In August, Vilnius announced a new military aid package that includes short-range air defense systems, armored personnel carriers, and anti-drone equipment.
Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė also stated that by the end of autumn, Ukraine would receive over 5,000 drones from Lithuania.
Additionally, Lithuania plans to provide Ukraine with additional aid worth €40–50 million by the end of 2024. So far, Vilnius has already allocated €153 million in assistance to Kyiv this year.
