'Very predictable' - German chancellor candidate about Trump
German chancellor candidate Friedrich Merz has spoken out about US President-elect Donald Trump. He noted that the future American leader is "very predictable," Bloomberg reports.
Merz said that Trump is a "very predictable leader" with a clear agenda that will force Europe to implement necessary reforms faster.
"He thinks what he says and he does what he says," he said.
In Berlin, after a two-day meeting with the heads of other conservative parties in Europe, Merz told reporters that, as such, "We can thus expect that there will be much more clarity in the coming weeks and months and that this will of course also bring with it many challenges for us"
"Trump is accelerating the process in Europe, which we had to do anyway... In this sense, it is also an opportunity for us to do the right thing," - He added.
The alignment of political forces in Germany
It should be noted that after the FDP (Freie Demokratische Partei) left the coalition before the early elections in Germany, a minority government consisting of the Social Democrats (SPD) and the Greens remained in power.
The current Chancellor Olaf Scholz is the leader of the SPD, but his political force is unlikely to gain enough votes to make him head the government again in the new coalition. Recently, the media reported that Olaf Scholz's chances of being re-elected are rapidly decreasing.
At the same time, the largest CDU/CSU bloc, which is currently in opposition, according to polls, has more electoral support than other individual parties. And if it succeeds in forming a future coalition, CDU (Christlich Demokratische Union) leader Friedrich Merz will likely become chancellor.
