Venice to introduce visitor fees: Cost and details revealed
In Venice, a decision has been made to introduce a fee for tourists visiting the city, according to the press service of the Venice municipality.
The new measure aims to define a new management system for tourist flows and restrict daily tourism in Venice during certain periods, considering the city's delicacy and uniqueness.
Overall, over the next year, there will be 29 days when a fee will be charged for visiting the city. This includes the period from April 25th to May 5th, as well as every Saturday and Sunday in May, June, and July.
The fee will be applied to those entering the Old Town between 8:30 am and 4:00 pm. Every tourist over the age of 14 will be required to pay for entry to the city.
Mayor of Venice, Luigi Brugnaro, stated that the paid entry to the city was the first step in regulating visitor access.
"This is an experiment aimed at improving the living conditions of the city, for those who live and work here. We will carry it out with great humility and understanding of the potential issues," he said.
The contribution fee will be fixed at 5 euros per day and will not be reduced. There will also be no established threshold for visitation; if exceeded, an additional fee for access will be charged.
The collection of funds will be directly managed by the Venice municipality, primarily through a web application available at https://cda.ve.it. Visitors can obtain a ticket (QR code) through this platform, which they will need to present for inspection.
