US President Donald Trump stated on November 29 that the airspace over Venezuela could be considered closed. However, Caracas denies this claim, according to Reuters.

“Venezuela condemned U.S. President Trump's assertion that the airspace around Venezuela should be considered closed,” the agency writes, citing a statement from the Venezuelan government.

In addition, Caracas called Trump’s comments a colonial threat to the country’s sovereignty and incompatible with international law.

“To all Airlines, Pilots, Drug Dealers, and Human Traffickers, please consider the airspace above and surrounding Venezuela to be closed in its entirety,” Trump’s post said.

What preceded this

In recent days, Trump stated that the US would soon begin taking measures to stop suspected Venezuelan drug traffickers on land.

Earlier, Reuters learned that the US President’s administration intends to launch a new phase of operations related to Venezuela in the coming days.

At the same time, media representatives were unable to determine the exact timing or scale of the new operations, or whether Trump had made a final decision.

Meanwhile, the US President recently ordered the deployment of Operation Southern Spear in the Western Hemisphere - that is, effectively near Venezuela.
